The agentic transformation starts with the customer.
Your customers are starting to hand AI agents an intention, a decision, sometimes an entire mission. Being chosen is no longer enough. The company has to be able to go all the way to the outcome the customer expects.
What is changing
Your customers are getting used to delegating.
Asking an AI to find a piece of information has already become ordinary. Asking it to compare several options and make a recommendation is becoming common.
As trust grows, the role of AI changes: the assistant that advises gives way to the agent that acts on the customer's behalf. Assistant and AI-agent platforms are becoming a new interface between the customer and the company.
"I want to visit my sister next month. Buy my train tickets."
To handle a request this simple, the agent the customer has authorized must be able to reach the necessary data, rules and services, then chain them together all the way to the outcome.
What it demands
The customer sets the mission. The agent builds the path. The company makes the outcome possible.
To buy those tickets, the agent has to understand the customer's preferences, search and compare journeys, take fares and conditions into account, then book and pay within the limits of the authorization it was given. It also has to know when to come back to the customer while a decision is still open, to keep the journey going when a step fails, and to confirm that the tickets have been issued.
To do so, it must be able to mobilize and chain together the company's operational capabilities — its data, its rules and its services — which are still often siloed: availability, pricing, customer account, loyalty, payment, fraud control, booking and after-sales service.
Automating existing processes makes the company more efficient. Rethinking them around the promise made to the customer makes the company actionable by the customer's agent, from their request through to the promised outcome.
What it changes
Reinventing the company starting from the outcome the customer expects.
Make sure the company can actually deliver that outcome.
Rethink the processes before automating them.
A company is in agentic customer mode when it can take in a mission set by a customer or their agent and answer it with a clear promise. It makes its offer, its systems and its organization actionable by agents in order to keep that commitment through to the promised outcome.
In agentic customer mode
This is not just a new interface. It is another way of orchestrating the company around the outcome the customer expects.

For more than twenty years, I have worked at the crossroads of customer strategy, brand experience, product and technology. I have practiced in start-ups as well as in large international organizations, across telecoms, media, luxury, retail and B2B industry.
I founded AltMode Studio to help leadership teams define the promise they want to make executable in an agent-to-agent world. Together, we test that promise against the reality of the company, and we reinvent processes designed for agents.
